Children at LSM

Children and families are very welcome at LSM and greatly enrich our community. A Children’s Group ("Sunday School") normally meets in the Parish Centre during the 10.30 High Mass on Sunday mornings. Children from the congregation, including the younger choristers, leave after the reading of the Collect with the two group leaders for their own Liturgy of the Word and return at the sharing of the Peace, to rejoin their families for the rest of the Mass.

Information about the Children's Group including online activities is posted each Sunday on our Facebook page (see the link at the lower right of every page on this site).

We use a variety of different resources to deliver the teaching. The structure of the sessions varies from week to week according to who is leading, but it is always focused on the Gospel or one of the other readings for the day. We read or act out the Bible passage and respond to it with discussion and frequently a drawing or piece of craftwork. After we return to the body of the church at the Offertory two children join the adult acolytes at the Altar for the Eucharistic prayer, and a rota of young Scaphophores and Lampadophores (Boat Bearers & Torchbearers) enables children to be closely involved in the worship.

This group is frequently joined with the Junior Choir, and we are building strong links between the two, highlighted especially on occasions such as Harvest Festival and Mothering Sunday.
